Fascism was defascistized. On the left it was even stated that fascism had no ideology it had no vision of the economy and until then there had not even existed a fascist regime there was only Mussolinism. Regarding this topic it is worth mentioning the influence of a book that you surely know and have read. I am referring to The Origins of Totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt in which the author without knowing anything about fascism stated that fascism was not totalitarian. In her book in which the only regime that appears as totalitarian is Stalinism she does not even consider Lenin and Mao totalitarian she did not consider Nazism totalitarian either she only attributes that quality to it from the beginning of the war.



Arendts thesis was used during the Cold War as a propaganda manifesto to Russia Mobile Number List Stalins Russia and Hitlers Germany in the same place but above all to justify that the United States and different countries of the . such as that of Francisco Francos Spain and Antnio Salazars Portugal which had common aspects with fascism. Arendts concept that fascism was not totalitarian but rather authoritarian helped countries allied to regimes that had some aspects of fascism to affirm that if it was authoritarian it was less bad and could even sometimes be well than totalitarianism that is Hitlers Germany and Stalins Russia. These types of positions contributed to the defascistization of fascism.








Also contributing to this process of defascistization of fascism was the fact that many real fascists from Mussolinis time later became Christian Democrats Communists or Socialists so the parties had to say that fascism had had no influence and they were only dedicated to ridicule him. Look when I was a kid I didnt see a single movie in which fascism wasnt ridiculed. I never had the feeling as a child and young man that fascism had been something tragic that it had paved the way for Nazism and totalitarianism in Europe. Instead of making us understand what the tragedy of fascism had been they took it all as a joke as something funny. Of the atrocities of fascism only the crime of Matteotti and the death of Gramsci were remembered.
