Actually come to think of it, it probably wasn't due to exploration. The size would probably be the result of the massive amount of spawned blocks we added to it. Usually in minecraft the amount of building and map size are not directly related, as building materials are taken from the present land. With a spawn system, however, blocks can be consistantly added without removing anything from the original map.
